My name is DJ Tatum. As a young adult working in the computer lab at the Pikes Peak Workforce Center in Colorado Springs, people would often confide in me about their résumés — asking what they should change, what to cut, how to make it better. I never got tired of it. Years later I found myself gravitating toward HR and recruiting, where I reviewed hundreds of applications a week — everything from entry-level to director and VP — before the AI boom changed everything.
When I got laid off in 2024 I had trouble landing a job, and it turned out my AI written résumé may have been the issue. A recruiter saw right through it and told me straight up it didn't read like a real person wrote it. As you can imagine, I did not get that job! So I scrapped it entirely and spent a lot of time starting over from scratch — researching what recruiters actually want to see, what gets résumés through ATS systems, what makes a hiring manager stop scrolling, and how to tell a career story that lands. I put all of that into my own résumé and landed my current role with that version!
Since then I've written hundreds of résumés that have helped people actually land the jobs they were after — from entry-level customer service to high-level project management and VP roles.
That's why Land the Role exists. I work alongside my partner, a high-level executive recruiter who has spent years placing candidates at the director and VP level. Together we bring both sides of the hiring table to every résumé we write — and I look forward to personally working on yours!
